ABA INTEGRATED POWER PROJECT (ABA IPP) HOST COMMUNITIES
Our mission at Geometric Power is to “develop and invest in sustainable power projects that make economic and environmental sense and have positive impact within the community”, therefore, the power projects that we embark on will supply reliable, global standard electricity. We intentionally seek to empower our operating communities and society through our two pronged strategy of Sustainable Community Development and Corporate Social Partnerships.
Our Sustainable Community Development ensures that we work with our Host Communities to achieve economic empowerment and growth for our host communities. Through our Corporate Social Partnerships we are committed to implementing a vibrant socially responsibility agenda.
Our host communities appreciate this gesture and exhibit eagerness and concern for the smooth progress of the project. Aba (Ngwa-clan), the hosts of the Aba IPP facilities have been cooperative. The success so far recorded in the project is attributable to the support and assistance received from the host communities.
The Aba ( Enyimba City ) local community recently expressed this appreciation during the Enyimba Forum when they invited our Chairman and CEO, Prof Bart Nnaji to deliver a lecture at the maiden edition of the Enyimba Forum Lecture series. This event took place on the 19 th of June, 2008 and was well attended by the people and residents of the Enyimba City .
Geometric Power has its facilities sited at different communities in Ngwa clan.
The Aba IPP power plant at Geometric Village is located at Umuojima-Ogbu community in Osisioma Local Government Area, whose traditional head is HRH Eze Chidi Nwaigwe. Umuojima is one of the communities that form the industrial hub of Osisioma Ngwa LGA and Abia State in general as it is home to several industries that form the Osisioma Industrial Layout.
Umueze Autonomous community is one of the communities that host our sub-stations. Umueze which shares the same Local Government as Umuojima-Ogbu is under the traditional leadership of HRH Eze Dr. Mgbarine. One feature that marks Umueze out is that it is the ancestral host of the most popular market in the whole Ngwa land – the Ekeakpara market.
Eziukwu/Obuda is arguably the most developed part of Ngwa land. It is the Aba business hub. This is where the popular Cemetery and Ahia Ohuu markets are located. It is also here that you find the Eke-Oha Aba, the original home and centre of the now Ariaria International Market. These features explain why Eziukwu/Obuda is playing host to two of our four new sub-stations, the Port Harcourt Road and Factory Road sub-stations. The immediate community where the PH Road substation is situated has HRH Eze Ahunanya as the traditional head, while the part where the Factory Road sub-station is sited is headed by a Regent Elder Chief Francis Green, Onyeisiala Aba XVII.
Ogbor-hill where our fourth sub-station is located has a great historical significance in that it is home to the famous Aba River that flows from Opobo through Azumini. It was through this river root that early European Christian evangelizers and civilization came to Aba , after first settling at Ogbor-hill. This was the first camp for the white missionaries and the large concentration of churches in the area further buttresses this fact. This is also where you find the largest concentration of the Opobos who travelled through the river from Opobo land. Another striking feature of this area is its topography; it is the only area in the whole Aba-Ngwa that is situated on top of a hill overlooking the entire Ngwa land. The immediate host community of our sub-station here is Umuohia with HRH Eze Monday Nwangwa as traditional head. Ogbor-hill also serves as a gate-way through which Aba connects to Akwa Ibom State .
About 27km gas pipe line will be constructed to supply gas to the power plant. This gas pipe line will run from Owaza in Ukwa West Local Government Area. Owaza also hosts a flow station.
The Ezes, Youths and entire residents of our host communities are warm and friendly which is why work at our various project sites is moving at appreciable speed.
Geometric Power appreciates the understanding of the various community youth bodies, particularly the Osisioma-Ngwa Youth Congress currently led by Mr. Obinna Nwachukwu. As stated earlier, this stance has been helpful in the progress so far achieved.
